Charles Dickens Portrait

Reading Charles Dickens is what started my obsession with the Victorian Period. He had a way pf creating world that were both beautiful and surreal and dark and horrifying. He championed people that most would turned away. Dickens was able to show the beauty where it wasn't so easy to see.

I created this portrait of Charles Dickens and focused on his wonderfully soulful eyes. He wears a memento mori pin of Tiny Tim on his lapel in honor of the sweet boy from his story, "The Christmas Carol."

The original illustration was hand drawn and painted by me (Debra Styer) with watercolor and gouache.
