Arthur Rimbaud literary portrait.

This is my illustrated ode to the incredible 19th Century french poet Arthur Rimbaud.

Title: "Soleil et Rimbaud"

Rimbaud has always been a literary hero of mine. Arthur was so young when he wrote his dark surrealistic poems and so brilliant. His spirit burnt very bright only to fade away so quickly. He stopped writing at age 21, and seemed to disappear from life after he stopped writing. He spent the rest of his life traveling perhaps to reignite the spark but sadly nothing ever did. One wonders what his writing would have been like in his later years...

“I turned silences and nights into words. What was unutterable, I wrote down. I made the whirling world stand still.”
― Arthur Rimbaud, A Season in Hell/The Drunken Boat

The original hand drawn and painted illustration was created by me (Debra Styer) with layers of watercolor and gouache paints over a my graphite drawing.
